I know what it’s like to be told you don’t know your own body. To be told you are “fine”, when you intuitively feel that there is something “off” inside and you just want to feel like you again. You want to achieve balance in your mind, body, and life but don’t know where to start. I empathize with how that feels, and it is that personal struggle that inspired me to go back to school and open ecoBella Nutrition to empower others to feel their best.
After an accident which resulted in a concussion, I recovered physically from it but everything about by internal system felt different. I begged the doctors to listen to me. I was dismissed time and time again telling me it was just “my body maturing into adulthood”, and this was the way it was. I was diagnosed with acid reflux and IBS and was told this would be my new ‘normal’.
For the next 10 + years I spent living with daily chronic pain not believing I could feel any different. My pain would start immediately after consuming my first bite of food which causes a spiral of anxiety sensations with food and broken relationship between food and my body. This lead to years of yo-yo dieting, a damaging restriction / binge eating loop which resulted in weight gain and social anxiety with public eating. Thinking I needed to “diet”, I approached fitness coaches to help. I spent 3 years with 2 different coaches who also didn’t listen to me. Who wanted me to restrict my food further and further to lose the weight which only perpetuated my disordered eating
While at times I lost scale weight, it was not sustainable and would always gain it back. I also was suffering from digestive issues and the chronic pain still had an intense hold on me. One day in desperation I was googling how to immediately reduce bloating, I find the FODMAP protocol for IBS sufferers. I was so exhausted from the life I was living and thought what harm it can do? So I decided to give it a try.
Within days started feeling better! My body was responding positively my friends, and clients were asking me if I had lost weight.
My face was even noticeably slimmer, my fingers and arms were slimmer even know the scale showed no change. I could feel there was a profound change happening in my body while focusing on my nutrition versus just how I looked. I was for the first time since my accident living mostly pain free. I was absolutely shocked I didn’t know it was possible to live pain free. I believed that pain was just normal for humans to have past the age of 25. I wanted to learn more. I wanted to further improve my digestion and daily life.
This thirst for knowledge inspired me to go back to school and study nutrition. Not only did I want to continue my personal health journey, but I wanted to be able to help another’s learn how to feel this good too!
